IT'S PEOPLE WHO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.

Of late, I find it interesting and quite amused, reading articles by Abdul Kadir Jasin - a former chief editor of Berita Publishing Sdn Bhd /New Strait Times Press (NSTP) and  "Other Thots" columnist in Malaysian Business - on his blog.

Was he now irrigated with great deal of "dissatisfaction or frustration" that many seen him vocal and critical of the establishment? Are his opinion and a not "beating the bush" views inflamed by his unfulfilled desire of doing so while with NSTP, a mainstream newspaper? Is it due to his "partisanship" to some former leaders seen critical of Prime Minister Najib's administration?

These have been mind-boggling questions I have as far as Kadir is concerned. He discharges his "hard views" to this very day on numerous issues plaguing the nation, the most recent being the catastrophic incident of Malaysian Airlines MH17, but such phenomenon (people getting vocal and critical of the establishment when they no longer with the mainstream) is nothing new in this land and as a matter of fact, it happened rampantly to an extent it cannot be considered weird anymore.

One need not be too observant or analytical as such a phenomenon has evolved not only among people's of Kadir's circle, but retired, removed and expelled top government servants, academicians, and even the armed forces.

Unlike Kadir, who is by profession, one who is brilliant in inking expression of opinions and views on paper (lap-top & tablet, in this era), others chose to enter politics under opposition banners though some remain civilians and only had their critical views heard whenever there are issue(s) related to his former jurisdiction.

In academic circle, the recent forced removal of University Malaya's (UM) political scientist Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Redzuan Othman is still fresh in their minds. Redzuan paid the price for conducting an independent surveys and polls on Malaysian politics which allegedly put Barisan Nasional (BN) in bad light. He was then directed to quit as director of UM's Center for Democracy and Elections (UMcedel) by the Education Ministry. It was also reported that Redzuan's position as dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences department not renewed. Following that, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah the former deputy higher education minister resigned as a senior research fellow of the varsity in protest to the forced resignation.

The general perception is that, they are only "safe" if they are willing and prepared "to sing the tunes" sung by the powerful and "going against the tide" can be suicidal to their positions.

If a large epithelial defect on the conjunctiva and cornea of the eyes could cause a blurring of vision, perhaps many just obliged for not wanting their "rice bowl filled with sands."

They bowed, to what many said, the "yes! man" and "head-nodding" culture within the establishment. Perhaps, that are among the reasons several ministries and agencies becoming less effective or seen ineffective.

As I have written, a dissatisfied or frustrated leader would not be able to perform with his/her soul, they stay on the job to continue enjoying the perks while scouting for a greener pastures.

If they are lucky, they are "safe" otherwise, the prospect of being sidelined, freeze in promotion, forced for an early retirement and even expulsion becomes likely.

Only those who are good at "apple polishing" would find their positions secured and "protected" even if they have committed offensive deeds and offensive utterances.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak did the right thing to have reprimanded Kinabatangan MP Bung Muktar Radin for his antique on twitter that triggered ire to many quarters including PM Najib himself.

His tweet during 2014 football world cup tie where German humiliated Brazil with a 7-1 victory - "WELL DONE..BRAVO..LONG LIVE HITLER. ex of one of our Member of Parliament. Y I'm not shocked?" WHATEVER (posted 9 July 2014 @5.47AM) has been seen offensive.

Malaysians were united in condemning his direct reference to German dictator, Adolf Hitler. A politician who seems fail to understand the severity and pure tactlessness of his tweet.
In reality, that was not the first deed or utterance by Bung which many considered in bad taste.

Bung Muktar is one among several leaders known for their outbursts and yet "safe" in the hands of the establishment. I do not know, seriously, what it takes for PM Najib to realise several of his stalwarts should have long been replaced.

I have written, if Singapore Airlines could make billions in profits, why Malaysia Airlines keep loosing and worst, in debts by the billions?
What has the Singapore Airline does that Malaysia Airlines cannot do? Isn't human factor is one of the reasons?

Back to Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) issue, I think I'm done with that thus, I couldn't care less though PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was reported to have confirmed that party leaders have agreed to a "smooth transition" and also hinted strongly that his wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will be the new MB.

It was reported that it's an open secret that the Selangor Ruler HRH Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is not "fond" or "comfortable" with a woman MB and it was also reported stance of Selangor PAS which favors status quo in Selangor.

I can only foresee endless troubles in Selangor administration and a repeat of German thrashing Brazil in 2014 world cup would be repeated in Selangor comes GE14.

I would not want to mention the questions of nepotism in PKR, the Kajang Move or that the decision to appoint the new MB is based on party's (PKR) consensus, but consensus from other parties, PAS and DAP must first be secured as this involves the post of Selangor MB.

I may be wrong, only time will tell.
