It works, his sternness managed to diffuse the situation resulting in the calling off the planned protest infront of Our Lady of Lourdes.
I take my hat off for him, for being highly professional & impartial when it comes to rule of law.
People with positions in public office must speak loud and clear esp on matter of great public interest.
Mohd Shukri's professionalism could well serves as an example to govt top leadership for allowing its own politicians and its right wingers friendly to take centre stage.
To Mohd Shukri, congratulation!.
In the name of our country and people, I could still be happy (despite my political partisanship) if the BN govt under PM Najib Razak, seriously willing and prepared to resume changes.
I opined, only bold changes can BN govt steers the country back into its right direction and at the same time, to effectively lead the people another notch.
Unfortunately, it may not come cheap. It requires great deal of sacrifice, commitment and sincerity, putting nation and people's interest above all.
A move that could even make the prime minister unpopular among party members, but popular with the rakyat (people).
Evaluation, 'Hire' & 'Fire'.
Cabinet members determine the effectiveness of the govt. Thus, PM Najib, who is also the Umno party president must be bold enough to exercise his discretion to evaluate, 'hire' & 'fire'.
Leaderships in some of the current cabinet members is reaching levels that requires immediate tackling.
Their ineffectiveness sample their levels of incompetency in running their ministries.
Thus, with next polls falls due in another 4 years or so, now is the time to 'dispose' and 'replace' them (regardless of their party credentials) with more promising party members.
PM Najib has done it before when Mukhriz Mahathir, who lost the party youth wing race, was appointed deputy minister while the winner, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin was not spared a cabinet post.
As appointment of cabinet ministers is the prerogative of the Prime Minister, Najib must not fear to initiate the move.
Reducing Bloated Civil Service, Trimming Ministries & Govt Agencies.
As changes are meant to position the government in the right spot, reducing its financial burdens must first be given serious consideration.
One to consider is by reducing the bloated civil service and trimming of existing ministries and govt agencies.
Extravagance And Misuse Of Public Funds.
Lavish spending by govt must stop. The use of public funds in event(s) non-beneficial to nation and people also must stop. There must not be another incidence of Qatar govt jet funded trip.
Govt to only spend what they have and can afford to spend. BN govt must now learn to
'wear shirt that fits its own body'.
Review, Revise & Renegotiate Lopsided Concession (Privatisation) Agreements.
Lopsided agreements with exclusive rights to cronies (politically connected companies) must be reviewed, revised and renegotiated.
'Privatisation' as govt called it is actually a sheer transfer of monopoly from the state to its various cronies, repackaged as corporate entities.
They have made huge profits out of this so-called privatisation and PM Najib must be bold enough to compell them to the round table as the govt has the power to do so.
Talking about bold action, I'm not sure myself if Najib has the strength as there are many pointers that indicate his continuous decline in popularity.
There seems anti-Najib so to speak. One indicator is when pro-Umno bloggers have started lambasting him on various matters.
Former NST chief editor A.Kadir Jasin uses his blog for his strong criticisms and surprise not, even the 22-year former premier Dr Mahathir has been throwing his 'punches' through his postings down Najib's way.
Thus, 'tormenting' cronies could be the last Najib wants to do as their support could still be vital to his political survival.
Rakyat (People) First.
Govt's introduction of cost-cutting measures which includes a reduction of fuel subsidies, abolishing subsidy for sugar, allowing increase in power tariffs and introduction of the goods and service tax (GST) effective April 2015 and govt's mulling of toll rates revision would have its direct impact on the rakyat.
The above has triggered a protest on new year's eve by several non-governmental organisations (NGO) which attracted more than 10, 000 people.
Parallel with BN's own promises and pledges prior to GE13, it is more than appropriate should the above, which would lead to higher in living cost be reviewed.
The govt must go back to the basic - of providing essential services to the rakyat without the presence of wastage and leakages.
Seriously Tackle Corruption, End Cronyism & Nepotism etc.
Its no point of me listing down the lengthy rest if there is no serious desire on the part of PM Najib towards any change.
