Sharizat Jalil's (Umno women chief) attack on Dyana Sofya (a Teluk Intan by-election candidate fielded by the DAP) is one clear example. Sharizat was reported to have said that Dyana had allowed herself to be used by the DAP to further it's political agenda.
Dyana told reporters that Sharizat reminded her of the fact that she graduated from University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and If I may ask, what is Sharizat trying to pull here?. UiTM students and graduates must be Umno members?
Since when joing UiTM make us Umno members?, or UiTM belongs to Umno?.
Is she forgetting or deliberately forgetting the fact that UiTM, just like any other public universitiy or instituition of higher learning were built with public funds (taxpayers' money)?. Dyna Sofya hits back at Umno..
To me, those leaders who are corrupted and/or who had siphoned public funds for personal interest are the real traitors. Has Sharizat forgotten the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) controversy/scandal?.
Instead of focussing ( the least being contribution of ideas) on real issues that affect majority Malaysians such as price hikes, effect of GST, corruption, press freedom, the use of sedition act to silence opposition leaders & supporters, selective prosecution & exemption etc, Sharizat chose to attack Dyana following her acceptance to contest in the Teluk Intan by-election.
First and foremost, DAP is a legitimate political party in Malaysia Democratic Action Party (DAP) and that Dyana is a legitimate party member. The DAP has always got the right to select and field any of it's member the party feels fit to stand in the by-election.
Who is Sharizat to claim that Dyana is being used by the DAP or that the DAP is using Dyana for political advantage?
I am seeing that the DAP has taken a bold step in selecting Dyana in demonstrating the party's towards Malaysian's Malaysia in contrast with Barisan Nationa (BN) race-based concept.
What I also see is the fact that the DAP is more than willing and prepared to field Dyana (a Malay) as candidate in a Chinese dominant Teluk Intan by-election. A bold move by the DAP and should be seen as it's real effort in demonstrating a true Malaysian image where race should not be the issue for a candidate to represent or speak up.
Should Dyana win the Teluk Intan by-election, she will prove Malaysians that a Malay representative could still effectively serve the Chinese dominant constituency and it's a first step by the DAP towards getting away with race-based politics.
For Dyana, she has to be willing and prepared to carry the load on her shoulders as the party is anticipated to see her playing the role in DAP's fight against race-based politics other than party factinalism in Perak DAP which at times rocked the boat.
Now it's entirely up to voters in particular and majority people of Teluk Intan in general to accept changes brought about by the DAP. Chinese in Teluk Intan appear unmoved...
Should there be acceptance (vote Dyana to victory), I predict, it will change the selection landscape of candidates for general and by-election by the DAP.
I would not want to elaborate on Dyana's bikini smear campaign as I too opined it's nothing more than a mere 'gutter politics' as many politicians and analyst have said. The smear campaign includes pictures of her in skimpy swimwear.
..when Umno supporters launched the "bikini attack" on Dyana..
After the pictures went viral, some social media users said they were not of Dyana, but that of Filipina actress Pauleen Luna.
Dyana said,"my personal details were misused... And now, to tarnish my image further, there appears to be a photo of me allegedly wearing a bikini.
"While I think the Pinay actress in question is very attractive, I feel this really displays the level of gutter politics that our opponents would go to, especially against a female.
“Guys, please grow up,” she said in her letter to The Malaysian Insider, adding that the episode made her realise that Malaysian society is misogynistic.
