TOUGH DECISION AWAITS THE RULER TODAY

Would the following opinions & views burden the Selangor Ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin in his meeting with his incumbent MB, Khalid Ibrahim later today (Tuesday, August 26th).

1-  That the Ruler would be seen as involving himself in politics (of which, he is not supposed to do), should HRH the Sultan continues advocating Khalid or hear his advise that would scuttle the seamless power transition process.

2-  That the Sultan has no legal right to refuse a state lawmaker for the post of MB (chief minister) if he/she commands majority confidence of the state legislative assembly.

3-  That the Sultan has his limitations, though he could exercise his discretion in the event of a hung state assembly.

4-  That the Ruler would be seen defying the state constitution should he refuses or requests an alternative name (candidate) more for his personal reason(s).

5-  That with 30 signed statutory declarations (SDs) supporting Wan Azizah which was submitted to the palace, the Sultan must acknowledge that Azizah commands majority support of lawmakers in the state assembly.

6-  That the Sultan should immediately appoints Azizah as the new MB if he himself upholds the rule of law.

With rife speculation that the Ruler may refuse Azizah's nomination (for whatever reason), would the Sultan still be subjected to the above, leaving him with too little option but to give his consent to Azizah's nomination and subsequently her appointment as MB of Selangor?

And should Azizah's failure to get audiences (twice) with the Sultan could serve as an indication to the above speculation, it would give the Ruler a real hard time to deal with it.

In the event the Sultan has to "bow" to the above-mentioned and political pressures, we could anticipate a potential lukewarm relations between the new administration and the palace.

With the Sultan being the head of Islam in the state, the new administration would be confronted with constraints especially when dealing with Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) and Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS).

However, in few hours to come, people of Selangor especially, will learn what could be the step taken by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah towards ending the crisis.

What is important, Selangor and it's people should have not been burdened with self-inflict crisis by political party(ies) that can't manage their internal affairs which rooted the crisis.
