What Power & Money could do?

Earlier of the night (wednesday,  July 24th) I was not so cheerful.

The Kuala Besut result was reported over the internet where BN retained the state seat with a bigger majority defeating PR (PAS) candidate.

Not so much on the results. BN's victory I have anticipated. By-election usually don't favor the opposition, that's a common knowledge.

What disappointing  me was the report that voters were lining up to collect cash at village chief's houses.
(Koh Jun Lin & Lee Long Hui, Malaysiakini July 24, 2013).

It made me wondering where the monies come from and why was it distributed to voters on polling day?

Even if it was some kind of an 'aid', must it be given on polling day?
Is it special BR1M for Kuala Besut voters?

With so much of 'aids' given out in the by-election, a mere 158 extra than what gained from the last general election is not a great achievement for BN.  If one can understand the 'unwritten' message.

With presence of their 'Big Guns' and pouring 'aids', they should have obtained more than 1000 votes or more.

Another of my wild imagination is, what's the need to 'throw' when the norms (victory) are in their favor?
Worry? Fear? No confidence of own strength?

What if there are more by-elections after Kuala Besut? Should there be, I hope it's a non-developed constituencies. At least, people (rakyat) get some 'benefits'.

Bored with my wild imagination,  I logged-in to my Google account.

A click at the many notifications, I saw 2 pictures of P.Kalamanathan, the deputy education minister on a friend's wall. That's where I started smiling and subsequently laughed.

A picture at the top - P. Kalamanathan had his 2 arms raised. This had reference to the infamous school bathroom turned canteen, I believed.

The other picture at the bottom, P.Kalamanathan was seen about to 'kiss' his own or the hand of  Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyidin Yassin.

No crime done. Not even  offensive. Even DPM Muhyiddin was 'seen' amused.
I can't be sure whether such level of respect was given to Tan Sri Muhyiddin as a person, or his position -Deputy Prime Minister.

To some, this may be trivial. No big deal or non issue but I like to think, gesture shown in handshakes between leaders of different levels (in this case, a deputy minister and Deputy Prime Minister) should not be 'overly' especially in public places where cameras are always ready to capture.

As popular saying that goes, 'pictures tell stories'.

Handshakes has it's own language. The body language and people can recognize the different meanings of handshakes in different situations. Between a warm and friendly handshakes, a respectful,  fearful or an overly flattering handshakes.

When public read the meaning of handshake between P.Kamalanathan and DPM Muhyiddin as flattery or even fear on the part of the former, public would have a negative perception of him being a cabinet member. It reflects his own character & personality.

If the said picture is nothing 'UN-usual' or had meaning(s) of its own or contain substance of jokes or even ridicule, no media(s) or member(s) of the public would want to publish or make posting.

That picture refreshed my memory on what DS Anwar had once said.
When he was a Deputy Prime Minister, there are (some still ministers in today's cabinet) who would say YES even when he has not finish talking.

It's time such 'culture' be thrown out into a dustbin.

The 'culture' of flattering  bosses.

Wise-man says, "A good Leader is a Leader who is capable to Lead and be Led".
How would flattering members lead their leader if so requires?

My unhappiness over Kuala Besut was 'redeemed' by the smile and a laugh I got from seeing that picture.

This is what Power & Money could do not only to person but state or nation.
