I don't intend to repeat on some of the 'hot' issues, but simply refreshing it with the hope that these issues receive necessary attention & action from relevant party(ies) as to stop it from being further speculated or alleged - at the same time 'improve' our nation's image in the eyes of the world.
Realizing the sensitivity of the issues, I here-by write the basic information of each issue, while a more detailed version can be found by browsing the public domain.
It's never meant to offend people or aggravate the issues nor written with bad faith.
1) The murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.
Shot in her head (twice according to lawyer Americk) with her remains blown up to pieces with C4 explosives in October 2006, the murder of this Mongolian women became one of 'hottest' topic here. Ever since her remains were recovered in the early hours of Oct 19, 2006, many had speculated or rather jump into their own conclusions to link PM Najib to the murder, allegedly in relation to the submarine deal.
PM Najib has since denied of any link to the murder, adding he has never even met the murdered Altantuya.
However, the late PI Bala's SD (Statutory Declaration) and Deepak's revelations had put PM Najib in the center of speculation and/or allegation.
For most Malaysians, it is important that Najib being the Prime Minister of Malaysia, is free from any part in the murder of Altantuya and it becomes fundamental if not critical of Najib to 'clear' his name before the rakyat (people).
While Abdul Razak Baginda (formerly charged with Azilah Hadri & Sirul Azhar Umar) was acquitted of a charge of abetment with his co-accused, Najib has not get any form of 'clearance' from any court of law other than his own denial. He has the option to challenge the late PI Bala's SD and Deepak's revelations in court of law. His inaction towards that has led to negative assumptions by the people/public.
Negative utterance on the prime minister of Malaysia is 'unhealthy', what more if such utterance has connection with murder.
2) The Scorpene controversy.
What supposed to be a straight forward deal between French firm DCNS and Malaysian govt, this EURO 1 billion deal for purchase of two Scorpenes became a sensational issue when it was alleged to have a link with murdered Altantuya Shaariibuu. Her connection to the EURO 114 million in 'commission' payout to Perimekar (a firm owned by Abdul Razak Baginda) and the alleged picture taken with Abdul Razak and Najib, has led to various implications.
People are more than curious to know the authenticity of the payout(s) allegation from the above deal. It is also not known at this stage, if Suaram's initiatives on the matter would lead to some truth.
3) The NFC controversy.
The NFC has drawn so much of public attention following 2010 Auditor-General's report. Govt's RM 250 million soft loan given to NFCorp for the NFC project according to A-G failed to fulfill it's establishment.
The opposition has alleged misappropriation. Though action to recover (the sealing of NFC's assets) has been taken, an amount of RM 170 million has yet to be recovered, as disclosed by Second finance minister Datuk Ahmad Husni in parliament. This involved the use of public fund thus, public deserves the right to know.
4) Khir Toyo & CORRUPTION.
Ex-Chief Minister Mohamed Khir Toyo's rejected appeal by Malaysian court for corruption was seen as an indication of the seriousness on the part of the Govt to combat rampant graft in Malaysia.
Khir, a senior govt official to be convicted for corruption however was unhappy and accused Prime Minister Najib Razak of scapegoating him as to show to Malaysian public his seriousness of ending high level graft. A promise PM Najib made ahead of recent general election (GE).
The Court of Appeal upheld the Shah Alam High Court's decision of a 12-months jail sentence on Khir. The court also allowed a stay of execution of the sentence while waiting for the appeal at the Federal Court.
Corruption was among major issues brought by opposition in their GE campaigns which saw Barisan Nasional (BN) suffered the worst performance in their 50 over years of rule.
Thus, most Malaysians are anxious to see if PM Najib is committed enough in ending high-level graft. People are waiting to see if he would continue to act on Umno/BN leaders allegedly implicated with corruption. Otherwise, Khir's accusation that he is scapegoated may make some sense.
5) The Election Commission (EC).
For the first time in Malaysian GE history, Malaysian Opposition has filed a civil suit in the High Court demanding an annulment of the May 2013 polls as well as the annulment of all 222 parliamentary seats results. It also calls for the sacking of the EC.
An Opposition member R.Sivarasa claims, the "EC defrauded Malaysia's 13 million voters by deliberately caused the indelible ink to fail."
EC chairperson, Abdul Aziz has indeed expressed his disappointment with reports that the ink could be washed easily.
"If people ask me now what is the saddest thing in my life, I would answer; Indelible ink'," said Abdul Aziz in an interview.
Realising perhaps, the sharp decline in confidence & trust from the public, Najib announced changes to the EC. Instead of the prime minister's department, EC will report to a parliamentary select committee. His announcement don't go well with the opposition and NGOs.
Co-chairperson of Bersih Ambiga Sreenevasan said, reforms announced by PM Najib were like "fixing a gaping wound by using band aid remedies", and would not work.
Under fire over its conduct of the GE13, the EC is also alleged of vote rigging through fake ballots and black-outs at key polling centers. However, EC and Najib have both denied irregularities.
Rakyat's (people) erosion in trust/confidence towards the EC cannot be taken lightly by Govt of the day as it may lead into serious repercussions in future elections at the same time pose a threat to national stability.
6) Pornographic Materials
I am appalled at the extent pornographic materials were used come elections.
Pre-GE13 for instance- sex videos, pornographic images and writings on targeted political personalities were produced and uploaded in public domain aimed at dismantling their credibility and integrity.
Ironically, post general elections no one seems 'interested' to come up with new produce and
unfortunately, porn videos made public are personalities from the opposition. PAS secretary general Mustapha Ali was not spared.
I didn't come across any such videos targeted to the ruling party candidates as if Umno/BN leaders are all Saints and Angels.
It is regretful when such videos were made against fellow Muslims. As Islam is the official religion of this country, such act is a disgrace to Allah, Mohammad the Prophet and religion, further denting the nation's image in the world as a country with Islam the official religion.
What I do not understand is the fact that if they (producers), could set up for the shooting to take place or knew of such action would take place, why officers of the religious department was not alerted?
They should have ample time to get assistance of religious officials as well as the police to deal with the matter. It only strengthen public belief that its more slanders than truth.
