GREAT PRIME MINISTER - WHERE EXACTLY PRIME MINISTER NAJIB WENT WRONG?.

It's no more a secret that of late, Prime Minister Najib's leadership has been a topic of conversation. What exactly the right leadership qualities a prime minister of Malaysia should have in order to steer the country to greater heights?.

In any situation, when a prime minister's popularity continuously declining, seen as being indecisive & ineffective, scandalous and controversial, abusing power, surrounded with head nodding (yes man!) cabinet members - apple polishing lots, and etc, the probability is - his/her tenure in office is numbered - but more importantly, the people and nation would be at the loosing end.

Let's see what are the fundamental qualities a prime minister should have.

The following are some of the qualities/values, I strongly believed any prime minister of a country should have as a description to the rightful leadership a country and it's people ever wanted.

What is listed below may not be in sequence of importance.

  1. Integrity - It's a common knowledge that power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Thus, without sound integrity a prime minister cannot remain honest in all his/her tenure in office.
  2. Distinction, but approachable - This could be the softest on the list, but nevertheless it's vital. An outstanding prime minister have to be able to remain distinct as he/she is always a symbol for their people and nation. They must not only be approachable, but seen approachable.
  3. Listening & understanding - Understanding the people in general. It's fundamental to understand the interest of the people and how they in return could be motivated to act in the common interest of their nation.
  4. Ability to lead a team of highly effective people - In another word, a team of the best available leaders the country have. Capable leaders, are not necessarily popular leaders. It is important that a prime minister is able to select the right people in order to achieve an effective team players. A prime minister must also ensure each of his team member is able to work as a group, giving them the appropriate freedom to administer all affairs under his/her charge and ensure that they are always honest.
  5. Credibility - A much respected prime minister are those who always maintained his/her high level of credibility with the citizenry. When the prime minister stands for one thing, he/she must have that credibility to his/her voters.
  6. Courage - A prime minister may have to make tough decisions thus, in so doing - the absence of personal courage, it's extremely difficult if not impossible to sustain a cool mind in such situations.
  7. People oriented - Genuine love and concern for his/her people.Lacking in this might lead into directions that could be catastrophic to some people. At the same time, he/she must connect well with voters in all constituents irrespective of constituencies won by the opposing party.
  8. Innovative thinking - National problems vary from time to time thus, original thinking and innovations become essential in solving such problems other than to continuously improve the lot of people.
  9. Clarity - The prime minister who is aware of his/her  vision, and who can successfully articulate it to his/her voters is one who will receive high recognition.
  10. Good politics - Good politicking to remain in power and not staying in power to serve his/her or family & friends' personal interests, but remaining in power to serve in the best interest of the people and nation.
  11. Ability to stay in command - Great prime ministers are defined by how they handle/manage "situations". For that, he/she will be remembered for their actions especially when domestic issues that directly affect and impact their citizens.Failure to effectively address the issues concerned would impact the prime minister-citizens 'relationship'.  In Malaysian context, the recent controversial issues that affect race and religion serve as a good example.
  12. Economic issues - It is important to understand economic issues and to formulate policy that benefits the economic well being of their people.
  13. International issues - To understand international issues and how they impact the home country.
  14. Great prime minister - For every specified number of years, a prime minister has to turn to his/her voters to seek re-election or fresh mandate. Thus, it is pertinent of them to be in control of themselves and of their surroundings. He/she must ensure a free and fair election. Being a great prime minister is one thing, being a fair prime minister is another.
  15. Trouble/scandal free & sound health - The task of a prime minister is not only mentally demanding, but physically demanding. Laden with trouble/scandal and poor health would certainly affect optimum use of his/her mental ability.

Obviously, there are more fundamentals towards making one to be a great prime minister. If the above simply could be used as reference & guide, surely Prime Minister Najib will realize where he has gone wrong.

NAJIB A WEAK REFORMER AND LEADER...
MAHATHIR SAYS NAJIB IS A WEAK LEADER

The worst thing that could happen to Prime Minister Najib is him being 'forced' to step-down similar to his predecessor Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi PAK LAH'S EXIT A LOST OPPORTUNITY FOR MALAYSIA  or loosing the next general election, but what matter most is how his 'weaknesses' have affected the people and nation.

Never in the history of past Malaysian Prime Ministers the PM being ridiculed locally and internationally.
PM Najib's poor executed speech which he used "kangkung" (water spinach) as reference went viral in social media networks and the alternative medias. NAJIB RAPPED BY NETIZENS FOR 'KANGKUNG' STATEMENT

His 'silence' approach on various issues of public importance and attention has made many quarters unhappy.  MALAYSIANS FED UP WITH NAJIB'S DEAFENING SILENCE
His indecisiveness on those issues worry many people with some questioning whether he is a Prime Minister with full command/control.

Majority Malaysians (as indicated in popular votes gained by Pakatan Rayat) in last general election would certainly want Malaysia to be led by a great Prime Minister, the PM for all - people and nation.
