HAS PR STARTED TO FACE SEVERE EROSION OF PUBLIC TRUST AND CONFIDENCE?
Has Pakatan Rakyat/People's Pact? (PR) started to face severe erosion of public trust and confidence?
Has PR's so-called common policy platform and principles of justice, freedom, accountibilty, transparency and good governance as the basis of Malaysian new politics threatened by the on-going crisis in Selangor?
Perhaps, PKR's (People's Justice Party) Anwar and associates could have the best answer to the above questions. Known for their "great mental agility and discernment", perhaps they would aid us access the level of erosion (if any) at this moment.
Kelantan MB (chief minister) Datuk Ahmad Yakop said, Tan Sri Khalid is free to join PAS as he has been sacked by PKR and that it was up to Khalid to join PAS as it's doors are always open to him.
"It is up to him to join PAS now that he is no longer a PKR member after Saturday," he said. Selangor MB crisis: PAS' door s open to Khalid, says Kelantan MB
Is there any pit to even mutter such offer by PAS' Kelantan MB to Khalid as fishing in the trouble waters?
To label such action as dishonourable as it could shatter public credibility in PR does not arise if PAS eventually, opt to disown PR.
Several PKR leaders have been bashing PAS following the Selangor MB crisis. PKR expelled Khalid. So, why cry foul if Khalid chose to be with PAS? After Saturday, he's free to join any party as he wishes since he is without a party now.
PR leadership should have been on the alert to see that it's affiliate party members be sensitives to the feelings of PAS leaders for their stance over the MB post crisis. To respect the differences and instead, find ways towards achieving a consensus.
When PR leadership can't even discipline leaders of the pact from being offensive with their words and actions which only benefit pact's real enemies, how in the world would they excercise discipline to showcase their principles and objectives?
Like it or not, PR has to admit that "Kajang Move" has lead to present MB crisis and that the latter has now threatened disunity among members of the pact.
Amid all the varying and contradictory phenomena of the crisis, efforts should have been made towards resolving it amicably which gives coherence and intelligibility to them.
Washing dirty linen in public, undermining statements and allegations made without reporting them to relevant authorities are not helping to resolve the crisis. On top of that, bashing of the party having it's differences over the crisis is also not helping on the political integrity of the pact.
Actually speaking, though my friends on the social media may have mistaken me for supporting or defending Khalid, I only want him to receive justice due to him. He has served the party and state and has successfully convinced the Selangor voters through his acceptable governance for continued support to PR state government. As a matter of fact, the achievement in 13th general election (GE13) was better than the previous when additional seats were won.
I wrote on my twitter at the beginning of the MB crisis that Khalid should just resign - whether it's about moral or not. If he didn't doubt that if it was to his advantage to do so, he'd have no compunction, however unfairly.
However, he chose not to step-down much to the annoyance of his party leadership. Still, I chose not to conclude if he has no moral scruples as he may have his valid reason(s) for doing so.
I have also predicted of the possibility of him being sacked or removed through a motion of no confidence. Until the House convene and moves a motion of no confidence, in agreement with Islamic University law lecturer Assoc Prof Dr Shamrahayu (refer to my earlier article), Khalid would still be the MB.
But I have to correct here of what I have erred in my earlier article pertaining to the number of seats in each party. With Khalid's expulsion, PKR now has 13 seats, DAP and PAS 15 each while Umno/BN (the opposition coalition in the state) has 12.
In a situation PAS merges with Umno/BN, they would have 27 seats, while PKR and DAP would have 28, but in the event Khalid joins PAS or Umno, the House would have a tie. PKR/DAP 28 and PAS/BN 28 thus, for either party to have a simple majority, at least one from either divide must leave his/her coalition party.
However, I choose to stay away from inking my opinion on camaraderie and loyalty as in politics it's too subjective to talk about it. As the great Napoleon Bonaparte said,"In politics, an absurdity is not a handicap."
Whether they'll be any assembly man or woman who would jump ship should PAS/BN merger becomes a reality, it's something interesting to be followed.
Khalid personally felt that he has been unfairly treated thus, it's not too much to say if the feelings of revenge evolves in him. To me, what is there to even talk about honor after he being sacked.
While PKR and DAP are seen to have many "agnostic" elements, PAS differ in various ways. Thus, PKR and the DAP affiliation has never been seen as a "marriage of convenience", but PAS faithfulness/loyalty could be threatened by the differences it has with PKR and DAP from time to time.
I prefer not to speculate on the possibilities of any PKR and DAP assemblyman/woman joining Khalid. If we take Perak's defected 4 in 2009 who contributed to the fall of the PR state government, they comprised DAP and PKR assemblymen/women.
I also choose not to underrate Umno/BN's role under the given circumstance. Whether or not Umno/BN will fork millions of ringgit in "buy-over" it's something beyond our control. People are entitled to their own opinion on this.
PKR has taken the ultimatum against Khalid. Khalid has not indicated his next move, but as I have said in my earlier articles, whatever move he takes, PKR/PR may be dragged to a loose -loose situation.
But I'm quite gratified when Anwar finally said it is important to get the views of all coalition members, as the issue does not only concern Selangor but PR as well. Selangor MB crisis: It is time to move on, says Anwar At least his statement make sense. However, much damage has already been done.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin said," This is their problem that is now becoming a crisis that burdens the people. For us, the people is a priority, I don't think the people will be happy if it continues.
"There should be immediate action (to resolve it), we do not wish to interfere in their internal affairs.
"They should look at what the people will face. Don't make it a burden on the people," he told reporters after officiating the Bentong Umno division delegates meeting - report The Star.
Statements that will be "curried" by leaders and supporters of PR though a portion of it could be true.
Now, the only thing PKR could do is seeking to establish that Khalid had lost support from the assembly which is a vital requirement to oust him from office. So, whether there would be a motion of no confidence vote against him or the snap polls, It would soon be known.
