Anwar Ibrahim was reported as saying that Khalid Ibrahim the embattled Selangor MB (chief minister) is a family friend, but at the same time, his statements leveled at Khalid are far from "friendly".
If I read the unwritten correctly, he has implied with his statements negative "contents" prejudiced to Khalid's credibility, integrity and image.
I have been reading from media (print media and news portals), most of Anwar's statements from the "Kajang Move" to MB crisis in (state) Selangor and the nomination and proposed appointment of Wan Azizah (his wife) as new MB replacing incumbent Khalid, and has formed my own opinion.
Strongly, I am of the opinion that Anwar's Kajang Move to remove Khalid is responsible for tearing apart PR (People's Pact) period.
I can't find the rationale of Anwar being an Opposition Leader as well as PKR advisor (de facto leader), for seeing it a need to be elected as state assemblyman in the first place.
Did you notice that his devastating sodomy conviction coincided with the tragic disappearance of flight MH370?
And when he initiated the move to propel his wife as new MB to replace Khalid in Selangor, it took place amid the devastation of flight MH17?
Call me a recalcitrant if you want, that cannot stop me from believing Kajang Move is the root to all rift not only in PKR itself, but PR in Selangor.
Most importantly, it has now cost the Selangor's state administration in a "limbo". And that Anwar is part of Kajang Move.
I'm beginning to believe that the days when people would blindly believe (without validating) anything Anwar said or did, are at it's finishing line.
If you disagree with me, the Zuraida's (PKR women chief) press conference is there to substantiate my claim. Didn't he had trouble convincing his party that his wife is qualified for MB?
Is it not Anwar who had rejected appeals by Azmin Ali's (PKR deputy president) supporters to also nominate Azmin for MB?
They (Anwar & Azmin) could still exchange smiles in public places, but don't you think that the relationship between the duo has started to really break down?
Forget not, the "silent" Azmin now hold the numbers with those aligned to him dominating the new party line-up, from the vice president level to the supreme council seats.
Yes, I'm critical of Anwar.
Simply because I see him a leader who fails to address rivalry in his party and that the whole state of Selangor is "sacrificed", with interest of the people in Selangor not given priority.
Many could have seen Azizah the like of Corazon Aquino who gets elevated to national politics due to their husbands, but forget not there's always a limit - as limited as Azizah's experience and exposure in state administration, let alone the nation.
Would she gets the groundswell of goodwill given the peculiar procedure and arguments in which Khalid is ousted from office?
Even if she makes it, what make you think that she would have easy time especially after taking over from a people's popular MB?
The people of Selangor including the voters are quite well-informed and knowledgeable. They threw support behind PR as they thought PR is a better alternative to BN. Principled, with good governance.
Unfortunately what they are seeing is the unnecessary and a public wasting funds by-election by scapegoating a siting assemblyman to give way.
Then, they tried forcing a popular MB to give way for a woman who lacks in experience to run the state.
At a forum titled 'Selangor Crisis - Pakatan Split', PKR's strategist Rafizi Ramli made a revelation that PAS leadership had never wanted Anwar to be the prime minister in the event PR wins the general election.
He further revealed that the Kajang Move was initiated following PAS insistence in not supporting Anwar as prime minister. Another justification of Kajang Move?
Rafizi's open show of displeasure against PAS for not supporting the Kajang Move is considered "ill-mannered" where opinion and views of partners in PR are not respected.
His bashing of PAS in the forum would certainly make it more difficult to change the mindset of the top two duo, Abdul Hadi and Nik Aziz
If I'm wrong about Kajang Move, how come Rafizi offered his apology to the Malaysian public especially the voters of Kajang?
He wrote, the by-election will certainly consume public money and public space at the time when the people have to go through economic hardship. Isn't that an admission?
He added, he is aware that there is no excuse for wasting public money except to offer his sincerest apology and for the party to be prepared if the voters of Kajang decide to punish us.
"In all honesty, as the strongest proponent of the scheme I bear most responsibility for the decision."
Proponent or architect?
Proponent or architect?
I'm quite amused at an opinion that states the strength of PR must not be from a single person, otherwise if the head falls the rest of the body will too! Like in a fish. It rots from the head.
At the same time, I do agree with a writer who said PKR should start to purge the old remains of Umno warlords / political baggage that only fights for the benefits of politician rather than people.
Supposedly, when Anwar take the MB seat, it seals the fight to topple Khalid, but though disqualified, it still make no difference as he has the hands of his wife Azizah.
To me, one thing is certain. The strategy is PKR's strategy and not PR (the Pact) as demonstrated by PAS' stance to maintain a status-quo (retaining Khalid) in Selangor which speaks volume.
It also seem to me that they (PKR) resorted to 'decide first, engage later', a typical move of Umno. But on second thought, why surprised? Isn't Anwar was an Umno member? so are the many of them?
Another factor that I was reluctant to lend my support in Kajang Move is when I see it as a decision that benefit PKR and not the people. On top of that, making Anwar (as per original plan) the new MB only reflects no one is capable to perform the task. Only Anwar is capable?
The current disunity in PKR only cast doubts on PR's ability to wrest and rule Putrajaya. The exercise spells of political interest & twist and resembling of the Umno/BN ruling party strategy. If the MB does his job well with integrity and cherish himself for the people, is there a reason to get him replaced?
Today, Khalid is officially expelled from PKR. Khalid Ibrahim expelled from PKR
Grudgingly acknowledged PKR's decision, he said,"I acknowledge the decision - flawed and illegal as it may be - by PKR to terminate my membership in the party." Selangor MB crisis: Khalid grudgingly acknowledges PKR's decision to expel him from party
"As mentioned in my responses, the party is itself confused as to the details of the allegations against me.
"PKR has failed to specify which articles of the party's constitution my alleged acts have breached.
"There has been a conspiracy of the highest order.
"Until such a time as this issue is resolved in accordance with proper procedures, laws and conventions - particularly in the Selangor Constitution, I will continue to perform my duty to the people as the Selangor MB to the best of my ability," he added, thanking those who had supported him during these difficult times.
It's becoming apparent that the 1977 Kelantan episode is repeating in Selangor.
Mohamad Nasir, the then MB from PAS was expelled by the party which eventually lead to 1977 Kelantan Emergency.
Meanwhile, PAS spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Aziz said,"That is their business, I cannot interfere.
"PKR has the right to expel it's members, we cannot interfere.
"Not accepting (the Syura Council's decision), that is his business," Nik Aziz said.
It's public knowledge that PR coalition/alliance which has the mandate to govern Selangor has not been able to reach consensus whether Khalid must relinquish his position to pave the way for Anwar's wife, Azizah.
While DAP threw it's support/endorsement on PKR's plan, PAS is firm with it's stance in backing Khalid.
PKR's decision to expel Khalid today comes ahead of a PAS meeting scheduled to take place on August 17 to decide it's final stand.
It was reported that PKR has denied that Khalid's dismissal is meant to pressure PAS on it's stance of Khalid.
Now that Khalid has been sacked, PKR is left with 13 seats, DAP and PAS 15 each. The sacking also leaves the alliance pact in perilous state.
Other than the probability of a snap polls, there is fear PR alliance would shatter.
Should the latter is inevitable, and that PAS chooses to merge with BN with Khalid joining either PAS or Umno, then the new merger alliance would have a simple majority to form the new state government for Selangor.
Anwar has given his shot. What else he can do after disowning Khalid?, but the latter can still turn the table against PKR with the help of PAS and Umno/BN.
Possibly, negotiation is ongoing now as Khalid has 14 days to appeal and that PAS' meeting will only take place on August 17.
That will be the lesson PKR has to learn from the continuation of it's Kajang Move.
